About Us
Our Story
Life at our beautiful arch started over 10 years ago when we all met at an etching class. We became friends and it was at a post-class trip to the pub one night that we jokingly said that if we ever decided to start up a gallery it should be called Two Kats And A Cow (Kathryn, Katty and John, the Cow). Little did we know that this conversation would be the birth of our business. At the time we all had little arches along the seafront and the spaces were cramped and difficult. Outside of Brighton our reputations were rising. All of us were enjoying sell out shows at some of the top galleries in London, but in our home town we were held back by the lack of a good exhibition space. And then 167 King's Road Arches came up. We looked at it - it was a dire greasy cafe but we could see the potential. After 4 back-breaking months Two Kats And A Cow emerged. We created 3 studios and a little gallery space at the front. We had no idea how things would turn out - we just knew that we loved painting, people liked our work, and that we were happy to work hard at our vocations. We opened up, painted during the week, and took it in turns to man the space each weekend. And somehow it worked. Our paintings sold and our reputations grew. And ten years on we are still here - we are now the longest established Gallery in Brighton - and all this from a pint in the pub! It has been a great journey - one that we never really designed or planned but one for which are incredibly grateful. Four years ago we started painting from home, opened up the space and our Gallery Manager, Jane, joined us. Somehow we have become surprisingly professional! But in and amongst all this our ethos has always remained the same - we just want to sell beautiful work from our beloved Brighton Beach - which is what we do. We hope you enjoy them too.
